About BRISBANE NORTH PHYSIE
At Brisbane North Physical Culture Club (Brisbane North Physie for short), we proudly teach the BJP Physical Culture curriculum. BJP Physie is the oldest running and most prestigious Physical Culture establishment in Australia. For 125 years, BJP has provided a national platform for Physie clubs to come together to engage in competitions and camaraderie.
“Physie is an elegant way of developing not only fitness but also grace, strength and focus in our girls and women. At BJP, what we are most proud of is how Physie weaves its way throughout the lives of Australian families. Generations of women have discovered lifelong friendships, a true sense of community and a sport for life in Physie.” – Jackie Rawlings, BJP Physical Culture
Empowering Girls for Life
There is an aura of confidence around Physie girls of all ages. Taught to stand tall, with strength and pride, they are team players committed to achieving their goals.
Unlike some ballet and dance studios, Brisbane North Physie focuses on developing the self-esteem of its students. By teaching them to have a positive relationship with their bodies, we help students blossom with confidence and self-assurance.
BJP Physie is passionate about nurturing students’ total wellbeing, in both mind and body. Physie is an accepting and encouraging team sport, where every member is supported and motivated to be the best they can be.

Olivia is entering her 9th year of Physie and her passion for this sport grows stronger every year. 2017 will mark her 5th year of teaching at Brisbane North. Olivia thrives on teaching and enjoys every minute she spends in class with the girls. Olivia believes that everyone can achieve their own goals with hard work and determination, and she is there to encourage and guide each Brisbane North girl to achieve their special goals. Olivia has enjoyed all aspects of Physie, one of them being competition, achieving 3rd Place at Opera House for Senior Champion Girl National Finals in 2014, followed by 4th place at Nationals in 2015, and then in 2016 she achieved her all time dream of becoming the National Champion Girl of the Novice Senior Section. She was also a member of Brisbane North’s talented Senior team, who won their section at the National Teams competition in 2015. These are some of the moments she will never forget and she wouldn’t have been able to do it without the support and love of her Brisbane North family.
Veronica started physie as a shy and nervous 4 year old and 2018 marks her 25th year of physie. Veronica’s achievements over the years she has been competing include 20 state finals of which she has gained several places in the top 6 including 3 State Champion titles. She has also made the National Final 11 times and has placed on numerous occasions including becoming the National Champion as a 1st year Senior and most recently Under 33 years Ladies. She has also been involved in team competitions at both State and National levels. Veronica enjoys teaching physie as she feels that it is her way to contribute back to Brisbane North and the Physie community. She likes to focus on technique and flexibility while ensuring the girls feel comfortable in class and continue to work hard towards the goals they set themselves.
Kate’s journey as a Physie girl started when she was 3 years old after watching her big sister’s class. Since then, she have attended clubs in both Sydney and Queensland. At the age of 7 Kate placed at Zone competition and experienced competing at a National level at the Opera House for the first time. Kate’s love for Physie grew at this point and, although she did not receive another Zone place till she was 16, Kate continued taking class for the fun, friendship and enjoyment it gave her. Kate has been fortunate to qualify in 18 Zone/State finals, achieving 6 places including winning the Open Senior section in Queensland in 2008 as well as competing in 9 National finals and placing fifth in 2011 in the 21-22 year Open Senior section. Kate feels that Physie is a wonderful way to express yourself whilst also setting goals and training hard. She loves the friendships that you make and the fun that you have.
Chrissie discovered her love of Physie at Kawana Waters club on the Sunshine Coast as a 5 year old. Her mum and would travel to Brisbane to take her to all of the Interclub and State competitions, and even to Sydney where Chrissie had the chance to compete at the Sydney Opera House as a 6 year old. Unfortunately the club closed down and Chrissie was unable to continue Physie until she joined and became part of the Brisbane North family as a lady in 2013. Since joining she has made so many wonderful friends and has enjoyed competing in both individual and team sections and has even been lucky enough to place at Queensland Zone and compete at Ladies Nationals in Sydney where she has reached finals twice! Chrissie is excited to share her passion of Physie with her two daughters and the Brisbane North juniors in class!
Maddie started Physie when she was 3 years old and since then, Physie has been a major part of her life. She has made the National Finals for Champion Girl numerous times, with 3 of these giving her the opportunity to perform at the Sydney Opera House. Maddie has also competed in teams in Championship grade since she was 6 years old. Her favourite thing that comes to mind when she thinks of Physie is the friendships. The girls she has met either at her club or at competitions, who became her pen pals are still some of the strongest friendships she has. Through Physie Maddie has learnt how to work in teams, discipline, respect for others but above all self-confidence. This will be Maddie’s first year teaching Physie, however she is looking forward to assisting the girls and passing on knowledge she has learnt over the years, so that they can reach their own personal goals.
Testimonials from Students and Family
When we joined Brisbane North Physie 3 years ago, I was impressed by the friendly and supportive culture of the club. We were welcomed like family. Since then, I have watched my daughter go from strength to strength, with more self confidence, strength and flexibility. She loves every aspect of her Brisbane North experience and friendships, from class through to competition! She’s a Physie girl for life! Thank you Renee!
After being a Physie girl for the past 12 years I have loved the experience of meeting girls from clubs around Australia, and the experience of dancing on some of the best competition floors. And most of all, I’ve loved being apart of the Brisbane North family since day dot. Brisbane North is a family that supports one another through every competition and through every class. The support, love and patience of each of the Brisbane North teachers is astounding. I cannot thank my teachers enough for never giving up on me and pushing me to a level I never thought I’d get to…the Senior National Finals! Physie is a huge part of my life and I will never give it up. Physie has taught me the skills to become a confident young lady and to believe in myself. Which I am truly grateful for. And it’s a sport I will be doing until I’m 100!
I enjoy Physie because it is a sport that both my daughters and I can enjoy together. I love it though because ladies class is my hour or two for the week where I can let all my worries of my busy lifestyle disappear. I can lose myself in concentrating on the steps and the music. Physie is my sanity saver!
